MOJCA’S  STATEMENT ON THE LAUNCH OF LIVESTOCK COMPENSATION PAYMENTS TO CLAIMANTS AND BENEFICIARIES IN ACHOLI, LANGO AND TESO SUB REGIONS

The various insurgencies stemming from the 1979 Liberation war that ravaged Northern Uganda adversely impacted the sub regions of Acholi, Lango and Teso. The communities incurred heavy social economic development costs, among others, loss of livestock as a result of the insurgencies.

Besides the various post war support programmes/reconstruction, Government undertook to indemnify the households and individuals that lost livestock. This is a confirmation of the NRM government’s sensitivity, concern and commitment towards restoring and improving the economic welfare of the war affected communities in these sub regions.

Against this background an inter-ministerial verification committee was constituted to verify, evaluate and confirm claims of genuine livestock claimants/beneficiaries from the affected sub regions.  The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in conjunction with the local Government authorities conducted a verification exercise to confirm livestock claimants/beneficiaries for compensation. The respective Local governments finalised and submitted lists of the verified beneficiaries to the ministry for payment. The ministry is ready to commence the payments exercise.

H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda will grace the official launch of the compensation payments to the confirmed livestock claimants on Saturday 26th March 2022, at Soroti University Ground Soroti City.
