The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Fort Portal Regional Office team led by Ann Tusiime the head of the regional office, participated in a sensitization and public awareness exhibition in Kasese, during the celebrations to launch the newly created Kasese High Court Circuit, at the courts grounds in Kasese town. This was on 3rd September, and the launch was presided over by the Principal Judge Dr. Mr. Justice Flavian Zeija, under the theme, “A people-Centered Approach to Justice.”
This momentous occasion marked a significant milestone for the sub-region, as the new court is expected to enhance access to justice for the people of Kasese and surrounding areas.
In his remarks, Justice Zeija emphasized the importance of the new Circuit in the Rwenzori Region, stating that the Circuit has already handled two criminal sessions (one in Fort Portal and one ongoing in Kasese). He also highlighted the increase in civil matters being filed, an indication that the public is already utilizing the more accessible court services.
Other dignitaries Present included Justice Vincent Emmy Mugabo, the Head Fort Portal High Court Circuit, Kasese High Court Resident Judge, Justice Makumbi David Samson Lwokya, Hon Justice Wagona Vincent, Registrars and Magistrates in the Circuit
Also present were the Regional officers of ODPP, Prisons, and Police, Community Service, Legal Aid Service Providers and all staff of the Ministry Regional Office.
