MOJCA ARUA REGIONAL OFFICE HOLDS SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP ON SUCCESSION LAWS

The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Arua Regional Office, successfully held a sensitization workshop on Succession Laws at Hunters Nest Hotel in Arua City. The workshop brought together key stakeholders involved in the administration of estates, with the goal of deepening their understanding of Uganda’s succession laws as they were recently amended

The participants included judicial officers, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Town Clerks, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and other agents of the office of the Administrator General. These stakeholders play a critical role in the administration of deceased persons’ estates across the region, and the workshop was designed to enhance their capacity to implement the law fairly, efficiently, and in line with recent legal reforms.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Ritah Kirungi, Head of the MOJCA Arua Regional Office, emphasized the importance of such engagements and training of government officers who interact with the public on succession matters. She noted that public confidence in the justice system is strengthened when officials are well-informed and sensitive to the legal and cultural complexities of inheritance and estate administration.

The event was facilitated by Mr. Balala Charles, the Acting Deputy Administrator General, and Mr. Robert Ali Bogere, Senior State Attorney based at the Arua Regional Office. They delivered insightful presentations on the legal framework governing succession, the roles and responsibilities of various actors, and practical steps in the administration of estates.

The workshop concluded with remarks from Lady Justice Harriet Grace Magala, Resident Judge of Arua, who commended the Ministry for organizing the workshop and highlighted the judiciary’s commitment to supporting legal awareness and promoting justice at all levels. She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery and ensure timely resolution of succession-related matters.

This sensitization is part of a broader effort by MOJCA Regional Office Arua to decentralize legal awareness and promote access to justice across the country, particularly in areas where customary practices intersect with formal legal frameworks.
